Fortunately, I discovered this case early enough that I can complete it for Sunday. I'd forgot that it needed several more coats of varnish.

I hadn't thought of actually selling the cases at this show, more thinking that someone might want me to do a decoupage design on their guitar case. It's a wonderful way to upgrade a scuffed case assuming the hardware and actual body of the case are intact. Doing one or two sides will add years of use to a case. Look at it as colourful protection.

I think, however, that I am going to price all the cases to sell and try to save myself bringing them home and storing them…where?

And once these cases are gone, I'll be moving on to something else.

I think I have eight of these stands that hold the guitar cases upright in a fairly steady fashion. Might have ten. I've used these all along at shows and they work quite well. All they are is two bicycle holders cable-tied together.

Just three more days and there still is a sign to do. I won't be showing 15 cases like I'd planned so must choose which ones to bring. I am promising new work so shall bring the Chain Mail one and the Comic Case one. The Carpetbag wallpapered one is not coming. Along the way, it'll make a grand suitcase or will be great for carrying home purchases from the store but it's too sloppy to show. Looks great in photos, mind you.
After a flurry of email messages, I am OK with space requirements for the upcoming show on Sunday.

Since my cases are free-standing on stands, I am not in need of a six-food table. It would just get in the way. So I have the okay to bring a card table and to put the cases where the larger table would have been. This makes sense.

Hopefully, there will be an outlet near by so that I can set up lights. The cases look amazing when they are key-lit.

I was afraid, for a moment, that I would simply have to pile the cases on top of each other and rotate them at various junctures, hoping that people would get a chance to see the selection.

Nothing like a sewing project with a tight deadline. All this material is for wrapping several small buildings, concession stands, actually, a somewhat impossible dream.

Let me explain, somewhat. A director came to town and asked for volunteers to help with a short
experimental movie. The script had more imagery than it has dialogue. And being written by two
people, as in, you write part one and I'll write part two, it has two, uh, parts.
It remains to be seen how this is going to play-out. If anything is experimental about this movie, it is the assembling of hapless volunteers who are asked to do the impossible…and the machinations they go through to succeed. This is the movie that should have been made.

In more ways than one. Just painted some of the hardware on the current case I'm working on.
Messy and not satisfying. This case is only going to look good; it isn't going to be good.
The majority of today, a superb second day of summer, was spent with ten others as we read through a play that was completed during the Playwrights Circle at the Ottawa Little Theatre over the past two or three years. It was a murder mystery, a whodunit, and my creative juices did turn to making an Audience Appreciation card but I neglected to get photos. It's good, as an artist, to have something to remember one's experiences by and that's what this card was about.

Decidedly…almost done.
Just a few outstanding things to do and then on to either the next case or the sign that may or may not be useful next Sunday.
There's a stand that could be made….I believe that it may be a relief once this show is over.

Still working on the rim. The ribbon idea is a good idea but what is really good is that there are eight days before the Ottawa Guitar Show so I have time to ditz around with glue and clothes pins.

The top and bottom have two coats of sealant and will get one more each.

The hardware is somewhat rusty and will need some attention. Bit of steel wool, no doubt.

This one will be ready, rest assured.
This is the first guitar case I ever did. An influx of acrylic paint helped push the project forward. It took several months to get it done. I call it The Mondrian although it is probably more Monet than anything.
The Winnipeg Folk Festival sticker says 1982 but the case is older than that.
Took a break today an did a collage mini-mural using watches. The key here is to have lots of watches and not mind stringing them up. I believe it's some sort of Teflon oven grate I'm using.

Some of these watches work, just need a battery, and others are actually telling time at the moment.
While two were drying on the table, two dried outside once the sun came out. Over supper, the two on the table got propped in the bath tub and they dried for several hours there. In fact, they are pretty much dry now

The older case to the right looks fairly pink in the photo but it is multi-coloured. Something needs to be applied over top to protect and minuscule beads from falling off. Some are on for good but just to be sure, I would like an overlay of fixative, something waterproof. I have some stuff used for puzzles but it tends to melt if it has to contend with water. Something spray-on might be best in this case.

Bit of a test day for fixatives. Am trying a gloss and a mat sealant, along with one that says "glimmer." It does not look promising, the "glimmer".

But the mat does. I think several thin coats might fill in the spaces in between the slugs and create a hold on the washes by gripping the centre hole.

The bell, it is going to be a counterweight to the Chain Mail piece which I intent to hang on one side of a garden stand. The bell, brass and quite heavy, will hand inside the upper thin outline and balance the installation.

Started out slowly as above and then today, worked on the side of the case, getting half done. This is going to look better in real life than in photos. Trust me.

Used the old standby of clothes pins and wax paper so that the wallpaper was held in place yet the pins did not stick.

Worked outside all day until it started to rain.
Bit of an exercise in wall papering today. The sample books do not have pre-pasted pieces so I had to mix some white glue with water. I have one side done and will work on the other tomorrow…if it doesn't rain.

This experiment started slowly and I got better at ripping up the sheets that form the border. The images on the larger sheets were too small to be of any use although they might do well for the sides.

Yes, I plan to cover the entire case in wallpaper.

This is a carpet bag, popular in the thirties. There was a book published maybe fifty years ago called The Carpetbaggers. From Wikipedia:
At the time, bags made of carpet-weave cloth from northern mills were a ubiquitous form of hand-carried luggage.

One of my plans is to cover a guitar case in wall paper, similar to the carpet bags of old.

The yellow case is in need of a makeover and with the arabesque case almost finished, and given an incoming gift of wall paper sample books, I can see something amazing about to happen to this otherwise dilapidated case.
The former owner of these ten books, so huge and heavy that they have handles, was going to become involved in scrap booking but after several years of never starting, she thought it was time to let the books go.
Almost done this item for the upcoming Custom Guitar Show on June 29/14.

Ran out of primary materials, that is, the little metal discs, and was going to use dimes for the neck but have decided to try small washers. I don't have these as yet. This is a project for tomorrow.
An expensive option, using dimes. I have enough slugs to do to the beginning of the neck. Having used black duct tape to go around the perimeter of the form, leaving it as is is not an option. Looks messy.

I've advertised on Used Ottawa and hope someone will know of a source and will email me. I made many phone calls this morning but to no avail but people were helpful and made suggestions and were interested in what I needed such an item for.
There do not appear to be any metal slugs in Ottawa. The thin, round discs, at one time, were the byproduct of some process that only wanted the holes in a piece of metal and not the part cut away. No one seems to know what they are or where they can be found. I think the best recommendation I had was to look at a hardware store and to phone Lee Valley Tools. I looked at LVT's catalogue and found nothing similar to what I am looking for.

I will tell you, however, what might work as a covering for the neck are scores of our ten cent piece or dimes.

In working on a prototype, I thought I might use pennies for a border but on second thought, I don't like the look.

I have enough slugs left to do up to the beginning of the neck and I have enough dimes to do at least a third of not half of the neck right now. Maybe $30 to $50 of dimes more will do the job,
Ooo, how does she do that? Have both hands
in the photo and take the photo?

Actually, I had help this evening and thank goodness. The sample is 3/4 done with two of us working steadily for several hours.
Very attractive.

We may have completed this but we ran out of the middle size slugs and realizing that we could not do the entire neck, we decided to call a halt to work until we can get some more intermediate-sized round shiny things.

Will we resort to having to use nickels? Stay tuned!
Earrings on a special grid affixed to the bathroom wall. A perfect way to see what's available for wearing at any given time.

Now, if someone could just come up with how to display studs, life would have no more troubles.
