I Hear Back from the Playwright in Residence

And I am entirely thrilled that he took the time to respond and I have already contacted the Playwrights Circle and hope that they are meeting this Monday. Waiting to hear back. Excited!

Hello Shannon,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write! And congratulations back to you for writing a play yourself - I certainly know how challenging that can be. I find that different playwrights can get stuck on different aspects of the craft - in your case, it sounds like it's making sure the dialogue fits the characters and their actions.

For me, the best way of dealing with these kinds of issues has been to have a reliable sounding board for my work - a writer's circle in which people can share their writing (and the problems in their writing) in a supportive and constructive environment. It can be tricky to find the right group of people - you really need good chemistry between the participants - but once you do, it's golden.

One resource that a number of friends have found to be useful is the Playwrights Circle at the Ottawa Little Theatre, and I wonder if you might find it helpful as well. They meet every other Monday and I'm sure the feedback you might get would help you with your work. Here's a link...
