Remembrance Day 2013

How did I spend last evening? Well I renewed the White Poppy Wreath for today's Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in downtown Ottawa. A few of the poppies had come off and there were bald patches so several artful hours were spent creating more flowers out of thin plastic sheets used in packaging fragile items, tissue paper and twist ties.

Several friends and I created this wreath last year after a former wreath was stolen from the Cenotaph as we lowered our gaze for a few moments of silence. A thief snuck up behind us, grabbed the wealth and ran through the dispersing crowds. The police present did nothing but laugh.

The White Poppy symbolizes peace and commemorates all who have been affected by war, military and civilians, alike.
