Leather at Its Loveliness

From the Dominican Republic, possibly from the 1980s.

I am fortunate to have the leather art to the left. It's been hanging in the sun porch for several years and is dusty and needs some leather conditioner.

I simply love this piece.

Below, two pieces from the 'net that are for sale either on eBay or through another outlet.

All leather sculptures have R.N. Piel and Puerto Plata, Rep. Dom. on the reverse. One suggestion is that R.N. Piel is the name of the person who did the work but since piel is the word for skin or leather, it might simply refer to the material used. R.N. Piel could be the name of the supplier. Some of these imprints include a telephone number. Next time I'm in the DR, I'll check it out.
